Volunteers are always welcome and encouraged to help with food preparation, serving, and cleanup after the meal. To volunteer, please contact our Community Meal Coordinator, Sherry Conklin (meal@upcbgm.org). First-time volunteers also need to submit our Volunteer Application (online, or fill out the paper version available at the church).

Shift 1, 12–4pm — Prepare, cook, and assemble food for the meal, set tables, and help with other dinner prep as needed.
Shift 2, 4–7pm — Serve meals in the dining room, run dishes back to the kitchen, serve beverages, and assist with cleanup. This is a fast-paced, community-engaging shift.

If you are not available to volunteer for a full shift, would you like to drop in for an hour or two and lend a hand? We would be delighted to have you. Join us!

We have been blessed with an extraordinary number of volunteers who plan, prepare, and serve the meal. It takes the generosity and dedication of our teams of volunteers to make this happen. Our volunteers find that it is extremely rewarding and a lot of fun. There is something very special that happens when sharing food that is cooked with love and care. What we feed on Tuesday extends far beyond the dinner plate. Our guests find a sense of community and connection alongside the meal.

We share responsibility for meal planning and preparation with other groups such as VINES and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Binghamton. The team leaders work with our Community Meal Coordinator, Sherry Conklin, to plan and cook the meal, and purchase the necessary supplies and food needed to supplement what we receive from CHOW and the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. With the aid of talented volunteers working together, we serve a meal to approximately 400 to 500 community members each month.

Good news from the Kitchen Crew!  After a 4-month hiatus and restructuring, the Tuesday Community Meal resumed on Tuesday, February 4, 2020. We are all excited to be cooking again!

We serve a free sit-down meal to approximately 125–150 guests every Tuesday evening from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. Everybody in the community is invited to attend. The meal usually consists of a vegetable, salad, entree, dessert, and a choice of beverage. Inviting the whole community provides a way for all of us to share a meal and conversation together. Everyone is welcome here!
